Mercer Island Girls U-15 Youth Soccer Team Wins Nike Crossfire Cup

The MIFC U-15 Girls win marks the third win in-a-row at the Crossfire Cup.

The (MIFC) girls U-15 Islanders select team won the Nike Crossfire Cup for their division July 24 in Kirkland, defeating host team (LWYSA-affiliate) Crossfire Farzeen, 1-0 in overtime.

The Nike Crossfire Cup victory is the third in-a-row for the MIFC U-15 Girls at one of the state's premier youth soccer development competitions, hosted by Kirkland-based Lake Washington Youth Soccer Association (LWYSA).

The team faced a difficult draw during the weekend beating Crossfire Parley 2-0, drawing with the Pacific FC Vipers of the Portland Metro League 1-1 and defeating the Puget Sound Slammers of the Puget Sound Premier League’s top division 2-0 before the overtime win in the final.

The second match in group play was a rematch of this year’s Washington State Championship game back in February when the Islanders defeated the Pacific FC Vipers 3-2 to win the first State Championship by any soccer team to represent Mercer Island girls soccer team (club or high school). Most the players will seek starting roles on the varsity and junior varsity teams this fall.

The team will also play in the Starfire FieldTurf Cup in November, which is a college showcase tournament for high school age players.
