Mercerwood Water Polo Takes 3 of 5 Titles at Midlakes Championship

Mercerwood's 14 & unders, 17 & unders and Men's Open divisions won water polo championships.

Mercerwood Shore Club's water polo programs won 3 of the 5 Midlakes League Championship games at held at the Mercer Island Country Club on Sunday, August 25, 2013.

Mercerwood teams that reached the championship game, playing in theΒ 14 & unders, 17 & unders and Men's Open divisions, won their title.

Mercerwood's 14 & Unders defeated a combined Norwood/Overlake team, 11-9; 17 & Unders bested a combined Norwood/Overlake team, 16-9; and Mercerwood's Men's Open team beat Newport Hills Tennis & Swim Club, 7-6.Β  Earlier this summer, the Mercerwood swimming team finished as Midlakes co-champions and the Dive Team finished third.

Mercerwood's 10 and 12 & Unders were eliminated in the championship semifinals; the 12&U's lost to a combined Norwood/Overlake team, 15-6; and the 10 & Unders fell to Newport Hills, 8-3.

The Midlakes Swim League began the annual water polo championship in the late 1960s and it is contested by 14 of the 27 Midlakes Clubs. The league is generally considered one of the top venues in the area for competitive club swimming and aquatic sports for children ages 8-18.

According to its website, the league involves over 3,000 youth athletes from late May thru August in swimming, diving and water polo.
