MIHS's Rasmussen, Warner Named to AZ All-Tournament Team

Islanders honored after Mercer Island closes out the Arizona Basketball Challenge with a commanding win over Phoenix Desert Vista.

Islanders Boys Basketball center Joe Rasmussen and forward Kaleb Warner were named Saturday to the All-Tournament Team at the VisitMesa Basketball Challenge in Mesa, Arizona.

The all-star team was named Saturday night during the tournament's final game between Corona del Sol (AZ) and Pacific Hills (CA).

Here's the All-Tournament Team: Kaleb Warner, Mercer Island; Cassius Peat, Corona del Sol; Joe Rasmussen, Mercer Island; Payton Dastrup, Mtn. View; Dorian Pickens, Pinnacle; Marc Loving, St. John's Jesuit; Marcus Jackson, Pacific Hills; Namon Wright, Pacific Hills; Jahmel Taylor, Pacific Hills.

The Most Outstanding Player for the VisitMesa Basketball Challenge is Casey Benson, Corona del Sol.

β€œThis was a great event for us. Our first three contests were extremely competitive and each team challenged us in different ways that will help us in the long term," he said. "We showed the fans in Arizona what Mercer Island basketball is all about: balanced scoring, tough defense, preparation and execution. I'm proud of the way our kids are playing together.”

The team travels back to Seattle on Monday and battles KingCo's second-place team, Bellevue at home this Friday, Jan. 4, at 8 p.m.
