Islanders Boys Basketball head coach Gavin Cree lauded his team's success at the tournament.

“This was a great event for us. Our first three contests were extremely competitive and each team challenged us in different ways that will help us in the long term," he said. "We showed the fans in Arizona what Mercer Island basketball is all about: balanced scoring, tough defense, preparation and execution. I'm proud of the way our kids are playing together.”

The team travels back to Seattle on Monday and battles KingCo's second-place team, Bellevue at home this Friday, Jan. 4, at 8 p.m.
