7-Eleven Day Means Free Slurpees for All

The convenience store celebrates its birthday/anniversary every year by giving away its signature 7.11-ounce frozen drinks for free.

It seems hard to believe, but the first 7-Eleven store opened in 1927, meaning the convenience store chain will celebrate its 85th anniversary this year.

This is exciting for one reason: 7-Eleven Day -- which means free Slurpees for everyone!

As has become the annual tradition, 7-Eleven patrons will be given a free 7.11-ounce Slurpee simply for the asking anytime between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. July 11. That's Wednesday.

The celebration is especially noteworthy because it also marks the 45th anniversary of the creation of the Slurpee itself.

“This year we expect to give away 7 million Slurpee drinks, more than ever before, beating last year’s offer by 2 million," said Joe DePinto, 7-Eleven president and CEO, in a media release on the company's Web site.

The company has also created downloadable birthday attire – tiny bowties, hair bows and two sizes of party hats -- for folks who want to dress for the occasion. They can be found at http://www.7-Eleven.com or www.slurpee.com/Rewards.

Six Flags is getting in on the action as well by offering a special admission price of $7.11 to guests after 7:11 p.m. on 7-Eleven Day when they present a receipt from a 7-Eleven purchase dated 7/11/12. Guests will receive a VIP wristband to attend the “Exclusive 7-Eleven Coasters After Dark” event that evening. For more information, go to www.slurpee.com and www.sixflags.com.

There aren't any 7-11 stores on Mercer Island, so head on over to Bellevue for the closest Slurpee (Ed. Note: Or you can stay local, save gas money and try Emerald City Smoothies).
