How To Watch the 2012 Olympics Live Online

The opening ceremony is underway! Live streaming is available through the NBC website with a cable subscription. Sign up is required.

The opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics in London began at 1 p.m. California time, but many of the events won't be shown live.

Live streaming online, however, is available through NBC's Live Extra, which requires a cable subscription that includes CNBC and MSNBC. Sign up is required to access the service, which is free of charge.

Here's how it works:

1. Click on the red button under "Watch the Olympics Live" on the Live Extra website.
2. When prompted, select your cable, satellite or telco TV provider (e.g. Comcast, Time Warner, DirecTV, AT&T) from a list.
3. Verify your TV subscription by entering the username/password corresponding to the online account you established with your provider.
