Library Seeks Community Input for New Early Learning Garden

The project, funded by Tully's Coffee and the Pomegranate Center, will hold a brainstorming session at the Mercer Island Library June 4 on what the garden should look like.

The King County Library System, in partnership with the Pomegranate Center and , is planning an Early Learning Garden outside the Mercer Island Library.

An inaugural planning and brainstorming meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. - noon, June 4 at the Library. Project organizers are seeking approximately 30 to 50 volunteers as a first step to conceptualize the garden as a gathering place for storytelling, dramatic play, music and dance in a garden environment.

According to a library press release, the Early Learning Garden is intended to spur development of imagination and a sense of wonder have been positively linked to children’s early exploration of nature and are important motivators for life-long learning. The project is scheduled to conclude by Dec. 31, 2011.
