Local Girl Scouts Seek New Members at Sept. 15 Troop Formation Meeting

The annual MI Troop Formation Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 15 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the Mercer Island Community Center.

Want your daughter to be a leader? The local service unit of the Girl Scouts of Western Washington are offering local girls the opportunity to learn leadership skills and how to contribute to the larger community.

Mercer Island Girl Scouts' annual Troop Formation Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 15 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the Mercer Island Community Center.

According to Lori Kovarik, Service Unit Manager of the Mercer Island Girl Scouts, promoting leadership is above all about fostering self-confidence and providing positive environments in which to acquire experience.

"Popular culture can convince girls that what’s on the outside is all that counts," she said. "When a girl builds her own ability to think critically, communicate her ideas and work with other people, she develops a strong sense of who she is and what she can offer the world. This makes her better able to develop healthy relationships and succeed in school, career, and life."

Two-thirds of U.S. congress women were Girl Scouts, virtually every female astronaut who has flown in space was a Girls Scout, and 80 percent of women business owners were Girl Scouts.  In Girl Scouts, girls envision the future they want and explore careers that build on their strengths and set goals to make their dreams a reality.
