Pottmeyer Named Friends of Youth CEO

The Mercer Island Citizen of the Year previously served as Chief Operating Officer at FOY.

Redmond-based non-profit organization Friends of Youth tapped Mercer Island resident Terry Pottmeyer to succeed Joan Campbell as Chief Executive Officer effective August 1, 2011, according to a press release.

Pottmeyer, (along with Susan Kaplan) in April, will be promoted from her current role as Chief Operating Officer. Pottmeyer has also served as Chief Program Manager at FOY and is a former member of the .

Pottmeyer joined Friends of Youth in 2010.

According to the press release, the Board’s decision to promote Pottmeyer to CEO will ensure a smooth transition of executive leadership, allowing the organization to focus on serving youth and young adults in challenging circumstances while providing new leadership for planned strategic change that will strengthen the agency’s work

“The Friends of Youth Board of Directors joins me in welcoming Terry Pottmeyer to her new role as the organization's CEO,” said Phil Crocker, Board Chair-Elect of Friends of Youth. “We are all genuinely excited to work with Terry in this new capacity, as we know how instrumental and successful she was in her previous role as Friends of Youth's COO. We look forward to her vision, strength, character and leadership benefiting both our organization and the work of our grantees over the coming years,” said Crocker.

Campbell is retiring from the position of CEO, which she has held since 2009. Campbell has worked at Friends of Youth for over 22 years, starting as Director of Community Services and then rising to the positions of COO in 2002 and CEO in 2009.

“Terry has particular strengths that our organization needs. She will be a great ambassador. I am confident that the mission of our organization will be embraced and carried forward under Terry’s leadership,” said Campbell.

Pottmeyer earned a JD from the University of Washington School of Law and BA in Business Administration from the University of Washington Foster School of Business.
