Volunteers Help Ready Emergency Shelter at Mercer Island Country Club

An eagle scout project helped establish the MICC as the South-end's community's emergency shelter.

At the recent June 17 Council meeting, the City recognized Emergency Volunteer Charles Bruhl, Eagle Scout Sean Quinn, and Mercer Island Country Club representatives Dorrinda Pierce and John Hartman for their work in creating a south end emergency shelter on the Island for use in the event of natural disaster.

According to a city press release, efforts at the shelter are just one part of a larger comprehensive emergency plan that relies on countless dedicated volunteers including the Search & Rescue Team, Medical Team, Ham Radio Operators, Emergency Well Team, Logistics Teams, and more.
