Since the mid 70's, Alpenland has been a lunch hot spot on the island. It can be hard to find a table in this cozy deli restaurant during the noon hour, as loyal customers return for a cup of homemade soup, a hearty sandwich or a fresh, healthy salad. On Thursdays and Fridays, customers will find a line winding through the restaurant to the back counter, where MIHS students and other Islanders wait to purchase Alpenland's specialty ... the freshly baked pretzel roll with mustard dipping sauce. For take-out, this deli is stocked with meats, cheese, European chocolates and cookies, beer and soft drinks. In the late fall, Alpenland sells Christmas ornaments and a variety of holiday treats. It proudly displays over 200 handmade German nutcrackers during the holiday season.
