Police Warn of 'Best Buy' Texting Scam

The scam sends out a text message saying the recipient has won a $1,000 Best Buy gift card.

Police agencies across the Eastside are warning residents of a text-based phone scam that sends out a message telling recipients they have won a $1,000 gift card to Best Buy. The message includes a link to a website where recipients are asked to provide personal information, such as their names, email addresses and dates of birth. Redmond Patch spoke earlier today with Redmond Police spokesman and community outreach facilitator Jim Bove, who offered the following advice to people who receive questionable text messages: Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it likely is. You can check similar websites to find out if they are legitimate or you can call the business directly to confirm—just make sure you are looking on their legitimate …

Police Blotter: Arrests, and a Young Boy is Found in the Middle of the Street

Toddler found standing in middle of street Police were dispatched after a 2 year old was found standing in the middle of Island Crest Way during the middle of the day. Police searched for the boy's home and were eventually contacted by his mother. The boy was returned home and a report was taken for referral to Child Protective Services. Car prowled at apartment complex Police were dispatched to an apartment complex on 81st Avenue Southeast after a vehicle was entered overnight and several electronics devices and clothing items were stolen. Sunday marked six months since the toddler was last seen.

More than 50 people gathered at Heritage Park in Kirkland, Wash., on Sunday to pray for Sky Metalwala, the Eastside toddler who was reported missing last fall. Many at the gathering came from The Overlake Church and City Church, to which Sky's father, Solomon Metalwala of Kirkland, belongs. People sang Christian songs of praise and offered prayers. Video evidence of the theft was provided to police. Supporters are planning a gathering at Heritage Park in Kirkland, Wash., on Sunday to mark six months since 2-year-old toddler Sky Metalwala was last seen. POLL: May Day Protests Explode in Downtown Seattle

What have you seen and what do you think? How much do you care?

May Day protests occurred in downtown Seattle today and around the country, and police arrested a few individuals and some businesses were damaged. In Seattle, some protestors, identified as about 30 so-called Black Block protestors, smashed windows of large banks and corporate businesses, and vehicles have been damaged. KOMO Radio is reporting that Seattle City Hall has been locked down. Mayor Mike McGinn said in a press conference today about 2:45 p.m. that he signed a special order allowing police to confiscate items that might be used as weapons from the remaining 300 protesters in Westlake Center.
