Opening in the fall of 2009, Sushi Joa has established a following of regular customers who enjoy the restaurant's freshMore sushi rolls, nigiri sushi and sashimi. The contemporary dining room and sushi bar are welcoming, and an imported beer or Japanese saki is a good way to begin the dining experience. Noodle dishes (such as Nabeyaki U-Don), rice dishes (such as Oyako Donburi), vegetarian dishes and a variety of combination plates round out the menu. Take-out party trays are also available. Reservations are suggested for parties greater than six.

Since the mid 70's, Alpenland has been a lunch hot spot on the island. It can be hard to find a table in this cozy deliMore restaurant during the noon hour, as loyal customers return for a cup of homemade soup, a hearty sandwich or a fresh, healthy salad. On Thursdays and Fridays, customers will find a line winding through the restaurant to the back counter, where MIHS students and other Islanders wait to purchase Alpenland's specialty ... the freshly baked pretzel roll with mustard dipping sauce. For take-out, this deli is stocked with meats, cheese, European chocolates and cookies, beer and soft drinks. In the late fall, Alpenland sells Christmas ornaments and a variety of holiday treats. It proudly displays over 200 handmade German nutcrackers during the holiday season.
The Islander

The Islander, located in the northwest corner of the Mercer Island business district, is a family friendly restaurantMore and pub overlooking the business district and the Cascade Mountains. Fresh clam chowder is made daily and a variety of steaks, seafood and vegetarian entrees are available. The bar entertains with the latest sports event and offers local ales on tap, a complete wine list, and memorable signature cocktails. Customers can enjoy sliders or fried mushrooms during its daily happy hour, featuring reduced prices on beer, wine and drinks. Upon request, ten percent of the dinner tab on Saturday nights can be donated to the MIHS Booster Club.
Roberto's Pizza

This homey sit-down Italian restaurant has cornered the market on unpretentious neighborhood atmosphere. TheMore pizza sports rich homemade sauce, with a handcrafted, "not too thin, not too thick" chewy crust that satisfies almost everyone. Although pizza is the main draw, Roberto's is just as well known for its kid-friendly (also loved by adults) classic iceberg lettuce salads with homemade dressing and grated mozzarella, signature cheesy bread and homemade lasagna.  Other pasta specials are available on weeknights, and the hearty Italian sandwiches round out the menu. There's no delivery here, but you can buy the sauces, salad dressings and even pizza dough if you want a short cut to good food at home. Reasonably-priced wine and beer are available. Kris and John Robbins have owned Roberto's for 22 years, fine-tuning their recipes and continuing to make everything from scratch, even grating their own cheese.  
Roanoke Inn

Built in 1914, the Roanoke Inn is the oldest operating business on Mercer Island. Originally a chicken dinner inn andMore eventually a hotel and weekend destination, it was adjacent to Roanoke Landing, where a ferry used to shuttle passengers between Kirkland, Leschi and Mercer Island. In 1941, the current owner's family purchased the inn and through various transformations continues to operate the popular tavern/restaurant today.

This neighborhood pub features an indoor working fireplace, a front porch covered booths (with heaters) and a side patio with outdoor seating. During the summer, back yard tables, topped with thatched umbrellas, surround the grassy yard where you might find a game of croquet. The Roanoke has a full bar and continually rotates six draft selections featuring craft beers. The "Captain's List" features regional wines from Washington, California and Oregon (bottles only).

The chefs also cook up weekly specials in addition to the menu fare of various appetizers, salads, burgers, burritos and sandwiches. This Mercer Island neighborhood gathering place was placed on the historical landmark register in 1976.
