First established as the Mercer Island's Civilian Defense Group in 1944, The Mercer Island Fire Department Station 91…More serves as headquarters for responding to all fire and emergency needs.
Led by Fire Chief Chris Tubbs, a native Islander, the department's 28 firefighters respond to an average of 2,300 calls for aid every year. The Fire Department works to educate the public about how to prevent fires and quickly and safely put out the fires when they occur. The Fire Marshal's office conducts safety inspections of all structures and events. Fire personnel are also trained in Basic Life Support (BLS) and certified for dive/water rescues.
