Ever heard the story how Mercer Island is haunted by evil spirits? Or how Islanders got around before the I-90More Floating Bridge was built? The Mercer Island Historical Society has the records, photos and letters to tell you.</p> <p>The society is also responsible for over a dozen commemorative plaques on the island at sites of historical significance, such as where four 90mm anti-aircraft guns were stationed on Mercer Island during World War II.</p> <p>The society meets monthly during the spring and fall (March - May, Sept - Nov) at the Mercer Island Community and Events Center.</p>

The Mercer Island Preschool Association serves as an advocate and information clearinghouse for both children andMore preschools on Mercer Island. The association hosts a number of popular holiday events year-round, including the Preschool Fair — a chance to meet representatives from each of the Island's preschools — held every January.</p> <p>Historically, MIPA has worked to better the well-being and education of young children. It was instrumental in starting a library on Mercer Island, bringing kindergarten to local elementary schools and building playgrounds in Mercerdale Park and the lower level of the Community Center at Mercer View.</p>

The Creative Learning Center is a Montessori method preschool located in the North Annex of the Mercer Island CommunityMore and Events Center. Classes are available in two, three or four day allotments and the school offers additional before and after school care and "Kids Club" programs.
Mercer Island Library

The Mercer Island Library is a full-service public library and part of the King County Library System (KCLS). TheMore library was remodeled in the 1990s, and is an important center of learning and culture in the community. In 2009, it circulated more than 400,000 items and counted more than 200,000 visitors.</p> <p>The library is supported by the active Friends of the Mercer Island Library. Its successful book sales events fund 75% of the programs offered here each year, including popular programming for children and teens.</p>

Mercer Island Arts Council

The Mercer Island Arts Council (MIAC) is a City Council-appointed board of citizens whose mission is to advise theMore city on investing in local culture and promoting the arts.</p> <p>The MIAC is composed of 11 voluunteer members, each appointed to four-year terms. The Arts Council supports many high-visibility events and displays, including the I-90 Sculpture Garden, the Community Center Art Gallery and Mostly Music in the Park programming.</p> <p>The MIAC meets the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30pm at the Community Center at Mercer View.</p>
