I am a husband to Kim Weed (27 years) and we have four children: David 23, Christina 21, Alyssa 18, and Brynne 14.  We have lived on Mercer Island for nearly 25 years. I came here to start my orthodontic practice in 1987 and have practiced here ever since.I spent much of my youth volunteering and fortunately Mercer Island affords ample opportunites.  I started coaching T-Ball for the Boys and Girls club in 1987 a activity I was encouraged to do so by my freinds with kids since I most likely would become a father.  Since that first coaching experiance I have coached over 40 youth teams on Mercer Island including coach pitch, kid pitch, soccer, basketball, volleyball and waterpolo.  My first contact with coaching was through the Boys and Girls Club and soon I was on the board of directors for 15 years.   Mercer Island Rotary was introduced to me in 1987 and I continue to be an active member.  I was a founding member of the Community the Cares Board and I contibute in an advisory role at present.  I have also graduated to the advisory board of the Mercer Island Fund.My family has been actively involved in St. Monica parish.  I have been an adult youth leader for 6 years in the faith formation group and an extraordinary Eucharistic minister for over 10 years. I was born in Aberdeen, WA and grew up in Hoquiam, WA. I have  6 siblings, 5 brothers and one sister.  After graduation from Hoquiam High School in 1977 I attended University of Washington were I earned my undergraduate degree in zoology in 1981.I was accepted into dental school at the University of Washington and received my DDS in 1985.  I was chosen for the Orthodontic program at the U of W and received my certificate in Orthodontics and a masters degree in 1987.Upon graduation I was appointed to teach in the graduate department of Orthodontics as an associate professor of orthodontics filling the role of  course director for pre-clinical orthodontics, a position I held  for 13 years.  I left formal academia to spend more time with my family, practice and community.Currently I am a researh associate with Northwest Precedent, a clinically based research group overseen by the University of Washington and the University of Oregon.I have been actively involved with dental and orthodontic study groups.  I been involved with dental and orthodontic professional organizations and associations including the AAO, the ADA and their component societies.  I am a board certified orthodontist as a member of the American Board of Orthodontists.I have been chosen as a "Best Dentist" by Seattle Met Magazine in orthodontics for multiple years and as one of "America's Best 365 Dentists" for the last 3 years.  I have been asked to join the American Association of Ethical Dentists.
