Luther Burbank Park Playground Construction Begins Friday

Construction at Luther Burbank Park is slated to start Friday May 17, according to the city of Mercer Island. Construction at the park is expected to continue through mid-July 2013, according to the city.

The city reports that the play structure will be replaced with new equipment, including a zip line, climbing web, improved slides, merry go-round, and safety surfacing.

The city last year approved $303,000 toward the project, which is budgeted for $328,000.

The Mercer Island Preschool Association also is contributing to the project, according to the city, with an aim to raise $25,000 to enhance the project.

During construction, access to the playground restrooms will be affected and visitors are asked to use restrooms located at the Boiler Room and Swim Beach instead, according to the city. Families are encouraged to visit other playgrounds on Mercer Island.
