Since the mid 1970s, Alpenland, at 2707 78th Ave SE, has been a lunch hot spot on Mercer Island. Alpenland's specialty was a freshly baked pretzel roll with mustard dipping sauce.

Dianne and Chris Masaoka bought the business recently. Previously, it was owned by Linda and Tony Gadola, who had put the business up for sale in 2011 after owning it for 14 years. They purchased the store from founders Gunter and Katrin Bonnofsky.
