Summer Book Club: Yoga for a World Out of Balance

A wonderful opportunity to learn/practice meditation and participate in poignant discussion of readings which explore ways we can enhance the meaning and value of yoga practice.

Our 5-week Saturday morning series will include:
11:30-12:00pm: Gentle yoga (optional)
12:00-12:30pm: Group Meditation w/ instruction
12:30-1:00pm: Book discussion

About the Meetings: Catherine de Marin will lead the optional gentle movement session which is intended to help establish stability and ease during the seated meditation. The meditation instruction and group meditations will be simple variations of mindfulness practice. Weekly discussion and “homework explorations” will be drawn from the writings in Yoga for a World Out of Balance. Students are encouraged to purchase the book and read the introductory chapter prior to our first meeting on June 1st.

Your whole hearted participation is most welcome!

About the Book: Each week, we will discuss readings drawn from Yoga for a World Out of Balance by Michael Stone. Michael Stone is a psychotherapist, yoga teacher and Buddhist teacher, author and activist. He has written four books which center on bringing the practice of mindfulness into conversation with contemporary culture. Michael explores how yoga can be relevant to culture, ecology and politics, and he does this by examining how yoga’s traditional philosophical guidelines can help us meet the challenges of participating in modern life. The book is a reminder to breathe, practice, feel, reflect ~ and then act. It affirms yoga’s potential. We are encouraged to look at the world with clarity, reflect on our response to it, and then respond to life situations from a clear, centered state of mind.

We offer this course as way of giving each other encouragement, opportunity and support in the form of shared movement, stillness and engaged life experience.

Tuition: $75 | Book is available for purchase in studio for $17.95
