Moms Talk about 'Spring Fever'

Is there a way to keep kids engaged when their heads are already on summer vacation?

Teachers at report that "Senioritis" is an epidemic--no senior skip day is needed given the number of seniors who have already mentally (and physically!) checked out of high school and into summer vacation. Younger students are not immune, especially now that the sun has proven it will show up for spring in the Pacific Northwest.

How can we keep our students engaged (or even just plodding in a forward direction)? Frequent breaks? Fun outings? Stress breakers like home-cooked meals and family movies?

The severity of the spring burn out is likely directly related to how much kids have on their plates leading up to the home stretch. For my senior, it seemed hard to stop the train. Even  though she was plenty committed already going into her senior year, she applied for things like Senior Service Club, Bridges Leader and Relay For Life attendee and performer. College may seem like a vacation from her current schedule!
