MI Boys Tennis Wins State Championship

The Islander's Boys Tennis team racked up 22 points to secure the state championship for the 19th time

Boys Tennis finds success in its first year under new coach Jamie Dieveney. Coach Dieveney said "winning state was definitely a team effort.  Our singles player Jordan Smith played huge and brought in a bunch of points for the team. But in the end, we needed every guy to step up and contribute and they did."

The coach said what was most important was that "the boys competed with a lot of heart and maintained a high level of sportsmanship."

In Singles, Jordan Smith took 2nd place, losing in the championship match to deLaubenfield of Nathan Hale, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. In the Semi-finals, Smith beat Zach Kosanke of Bellevue, 6-1, 6-7, 6-2. Singles player Zack Elliott placed 8th, after losing to Anthony Litchfield, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Doubles team Jared Thomas and Andrew Smith took 8th place, losing to Scott Alersen and Matt Alderson of Bainbridge Island, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3.

Other teams placing in the state 3A tournament were Seattle Prep and West Valley (tied for 2nd with 13 points), Capital, Kennedy, Lakes, and Nathan Hale (tied for 4th with 8 pts each).

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.

The Jury is still out. I liked the "Old Patch". J
